Juliet is a passionate practitioner and exponent of Contact Improvisation, based in Wellington, NZ. She has taught classes and workshops in Contact Improvisation in the UK and New Zealand since 1989. Her interest lies in the art of dancing contact whilst being able to balance information and make conscious choices about where attention is placed whilst dancing contact, including use of the senses, and remaining open in dancing. This has become a 'score' which she is currently researching. She began dancing at the age of 5, at the Red Shoes School of Dancing, doing RAD Ballet exams in the UK, and then went to the Laban Centre in London and the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam. She became a member of Jointwork Dance Group in the UK and has studied to be a teacher of the Alexander Technique as well as a Pilates Instructor since that time.
She has performed CI with Nancy Stark Smith, Martin Keogh, Catherine Chappell, Sylvie Haisman, Lucia Walker,
Steve Batts, and has been directed in performance by Kirstie Simson.
Juliet studied Contact with Julyen Hamilton, Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, Martin Keogh, Ray Chung, Kirstie Simson and Andrew Harwood, in the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand.
She currently lives and dances in Wellington, New Zealand.
