Gartenraum, Schanzeneckstrasse 25, Bern, Bern 3011, Switzerland

To dance CI with lots of savor, creativity and with no unpredictable risks there is no other way than to listen deeply to our senses and to emphasize perception. This seems to be obvious for subtle and slow encounters and often gets lost when the dances are speeding up or get more powerful. But in fact acrobatic and spectacular dances require a high degree of listening and sensitivity in order to maintain a continuous communication with my partner and to deal with gravity and two bodies in motion at any moment.
This insight got more and more important for me in the past few years and finally gave me the inspiration to offer this summer a workshop focusing on our senses and on perception. On the one hand we will explore the different senses individually to find their specific meaning and potential for CI. Then again another essential step will be to experience the fullness of all the various sensations as an integrated and highly differentiated entirety that will Show us new and unexpected sources for our dance.
To me improvisation means basically to lead my attention and to differentiate between sensory input and perception. And from there dances will emerge full of tenderness and sensuality or flow and playfulness with the potential to go wild and cheeky or even grasping.
Open to participants with experience in CI

320/290.- Euros

Holbergskolen, Frederiksborgvej 216, 2400 Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark

Fly like a bird, land and dance like a cat, a workshop with Tom Goldhand (Israel / Holland)

One of the best compliments a contact dancer can receive is – “you are as light as a feather”, another good indication to one technique is how we land on the floor, both these partners (the human one and the floor beneath our feet) teaches us how to refine our movement and dance.

In this workshop we will learn to be as light as a feather and to land quietly on the floor like a cat, we will learn to use our entire body – muscles, bones and joints in order to achieve this not so easy task.

By understanding different pathway in space and inside the body one can learn to refine his/her movement capabilities. Seeing spirals pathways as a way up to the air and down to the ground, realizing that one can influence the “heaviness” quality of his/her body and change it in order to be grounded or to be lifted.

We will also work on connecting both body half’s (upper and lower) into a coordinated one unit enabling us to land more softly and to jump higher and glide longer.

This workshop is intended for all levels practitioners of Contact Improvisation from beginners to very experienced practitioners of this wonderful form of dance.

Times and price:
Friday class 18-20 (80kr)
Saturday 12-16:30
Sunday 12-16:30 (Sat-Sun price is 600kr / 500kr with discount)

Mole Vanvitelliana, Ancona, marche 60131, Italy

RESIDENZA PER APPARIZIONI E SPARIZIONI

MOLE VANVITELLIANA ANCONA

DAL 2 ALL’11 AGOSTO

Somatische Akademie Berlin, Paul-Lincke-Ufer 30, Berlin, 10999, Germany

2-weeks summer intensive with Joerg Hassmann
August 12-23 in Berlin
‘advanced basics’

As in the previous year I want to dive into the complexity of the technical basics of Contact Improvisation. One part of it will focus on movement priciples, which inform also the solo dance, giving a taste that the dance is bigger than just CI and that CI gains more freedom and choice if we move happily alone.

As a red thread we will revisit the back space in a non dramatic way. A constant practice of moving, leaning and falling backwards into and on top of the support of a partner will pretty sure grow the neccessary trust to integrate these movement optiones into our dancing. Being in touch with the moments of the beginning fear will bring some light into our strategies of learning and avoiding.

We have the luxury of a semi-residential workshop. We can cook and hang out in the spaces of ‘somatische Akdemie Berlin’. Staying overnight is possible. Living and working have moments of overlapping. In my experience those phases have a fantastic potential for learning. The last 60-90 minutes of the ‘teaching-day’ will happen without teaching instructions to support this state of an individual easeful journey through dancing, labbing, discussing, writing and hanging out with an alive body and mind.

And wow, Two weeks! What a luxury for relaxing into things and going through challenges, time for repetition, individual needs and ideas, change of directions…

Recordings from under the skin that I saw in a video last summer intrigued me completely. I felt
compelled to learn more about fascia and to renew my understanding based on my studies of
Craniosacral Bodywork from some years ago. Scientists are exploring this area since a while
intensively and they provide incredible pictures and a knowledge that body-workers all over the
world sensed already earlier before, e.g. that in fact fascia seems to be much more a semi-liquid
system than a solid fabric, as the word connective tissue might make one think.
Moving from your fascia brings up an amazing lightness and permeability, both physically and
emotionally. It changes your relation to the inner and outer space and let you experience time in a
new way. Furthermore it allows you to use well known CI-principals as poring weight, reaching or
feeding the point of contact in a much more differentiated way.
Fascia is not only the one thing that connects and wraps our whole body in all directions, but it
also supports our movement by its elasticity and the ability to transmit force and to change its
consistensy. It plays a main role in proprioception and is deeply related to the vegetative nervous
system. And these are just a few aspects…
