It’s an international cozy event with 40-60 participants with the main idea – to create the space for gathering and connecting contact dancers and teachers from neighborhood around Lithuania and Baltics.
We will have a nice long week-end full of improvisations, contact dances, performances, jams, live music, spontaneity and happiness.
This year we will continue the theme of exploration and collaboration together. So be ready for rich classes, study labs and Jams! We are sure that our young CI communities are ready to discover and explore new ways in learning together. For this festival we invite some experienced CI and performance teachers and dancers who will share their experience in classes and help us to facilitate the study labs.
We are going to start from the present moment and follow our recent interests, inquires and questions in CI/performance. Come to meet, share and support, inspire and enjoy (contact, improvisation, performance, neighbours, new people, unknown, ideas).
Join us in creating this wonderful experience together!
Welcome to our beautiful capital Vilnius!

You can also take a boat to Klaipeda (from Germany, Sweden, Poland), or take a flight or boat to Riga (Latvia) and then take a bus to Vilnius (approx. 5-6 hours). There are also train options from some countries.
A five day workshop led by Brandin Steffensen.
Now Practices: improvisation and contact as performance research
Now Practices combines various tried and true practices toward developing ensemble improvisation: Barbara Dilley’s Contemplative Dance Practice, Nancy Stark’s Smith’s Underscore, Guy Debord’s Derive, and Brandin Steffensen’s Pentamode, among others. The workshop frames the practitioners’ individual physicality, the possibilities inside duet forms both contact improvisation and dance, and the compositional aspects of ensemble in the room as a whole. Techniques which encourage specificity while moving through space, allow for ease in moving into and out of the floor, and develop ease alternating from moving alone to sharing weight, always find compositional awareness as a background.
The days will be spent in part guided class and in part inhabiting improvisational forms. Observation and reflection, written and aural discourse will be an important part of developing the ensemble. The workshop will culminate in a performance built from activities within it.
