Mole Vanvitelliana, Ancona, marche 60131, Italy

The Kingswood Foundation, The Kingswood Estate, 20 Old School House, Britannia Road, Bristol, Bristol BS15 8DP, United Kingdom

Hi all, we’re excited to be inviting Martin Keogh to Bristol for a 5-day intensive from the 9th-13th November.

This is an advanced level training for those with a strong grasp of Contact fundamentals

Join good company on the shores of Bristol for dancing and discovery. With somatic exercises, games, some sweat, and the unique physicality of the contact body we will savor and rock the boundaries of our dances.

In this five-day intensive we will investigate the relationship of our pelvic floor to the unpremeditated dance. Contact Improvisation reveals to us that instability leads to mobility … and great instability leads to exhilarating mobility.

We begin by decelerating our sense of time to enter the details of our pelvic bowl. From here we locate our ground to dance while in the act of falling. Surprising ourselves in flight and extended follow-through. And dance we will.

This is an advanced level training for those with a strong grasp of Contact fundamentals

  • Saturday 11am – 6m (with a 1-hour lunch break)
  • Sunday 10am – 5pm (with a 1-hour lunch break) * Please note that Bristol’s normal class & jam will happen from 5.30pm – 8.30pm, a group of us will probably travel from Kinsgwood Estate to Hamilton House for this
  • Monday 10am – 1pm HALF DAY
  • Tuesday 10am – 5pm (with a 1-hour lunch break)
  • Wednesday 10am – 5pm (with a 1-hour lunch break)

*timings may vary slightly

To book email: saskia@contactdance.co.uk, giving a brief outline of your CI experience, and stating if you need or can offer lifts and/or accommodation.

Downtown - fully wheelchair accessible space, Toronto, Ontario , Canada

An integrated Contact Improvisation workshop focusing on momentum and sensation to ask the question: How do we get out of our own way when we move and follow the dance?

with Tara Brandel (Ireland)

Toronto – Sat. Nov. 9 & Sun. Nov. 10, 2013 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

(Optional Contact Jam/Barefoot Boogie – Sat. Nov. 9 evening)

In each moment, the dance is found by listening through:
· habit breaking and new pathways
· sensation with eyes closed
· high flying and momentum
so we can go to new places and expand our dance.

The workshop includes:
· Velcro Contact – using the commitment to skin contact to initiate more effortless, handfree lifts,
· the Collective Mind – being conscious of the whole group as you dance contact to build a sense of togetherness,
· Listening to the Pause for cultivating presence.

This workshop is for:
· People with contact improvisation experience
· People with physical disabilities regardless of experience (If you use a wheelchair, it is useful if you can work on the floor out of your chair for some of the exercises though this is not a requirement. Please contact
Tara tarabrandel@gmail.com if you’ve questions about this.)

If you are unsure about your skill level or would like the opportunity to upgrade your skill in advance please contact Henry Wai.

with Moti Zemelman
@ Bhakti in Motion 155 Brackett St, Portland, ME

Friday 15th 7-10pm – Contact Jam With Music by Moti

Sat. 16th 10-5p Day One – COVERING GROUND

Falling can be fun! What goes up must come down, you have to go down to go back up again. Learn how to root, roll, dig into the cliffs, plateaus, and boulders of our bodies to find negotiation with gravity that we call flying. Find new pathways to the ground. Learn about your soft landing gear. Find ways to be light even as you anchor yourself to the Earth’s gravitational pull. Come fall down and cover some new ground.

Sunday 17th 12-4:30p Day Two – GROWING WINGS

A study in the art of flying, we’ll explore lifts, weight-sharing and the dynamics of flight. Learn to develop more comfort with heights, being upside down, and using momentum through the air. We will practice listening to the subtle invitations that our partners offer us to go UP and find new pathways towards the sky!

Clarity in the Unknown – Advanced Weekend Workshop
With Tim O’Donnell & Alicia Grayson

From a place of deep physical listening we will focus on cultivating our responsiveness rather than our re-activeness, recognizing and then altering our known pathways, and composing through dialogue to create new layers and textures that deepen our dancing. We are interested in how we dialogue with each other, the space, our viewers and ourselves. How do we dance in a way that allows us not just to be seen, but understood? How do we listen in a way that helps us take greater risks physically and compositionally? With a strong grounding in contact improvisation we will experiment with these ideas to expand our dancing from the gentle and subtle, to the acrobatic and fluidly athletic.

Tim O’Donnell is a New York based dance artist who teaches, and performs in both the United States and Europe. His exploration in dance, movement and improvisation is strongly rooted in deep physical listening while maintaining a sense of adventure. He has taught and performed for numerous organizations, universities and festivals most recently including the American Dance Festival, Arizona State University, Dance Ireland, Dance New Amsterdam and Movement Research. He holds an MFA in Dance, has maintained a private practice in therapeutic bodywork and somatic movement since 1995 and has been on faculty at Movement Research since 2005. He is currently teaching at ASU as a guest faculty member.

Alicia Grayson has been passionately involved with dancing, teaching and performing CI for the past 24 years. She has taught contact improvisation as an adjunct faculty at George Washington University, University of Denver, Naropa University and Shenandoah University. She teaches CI, yoga and pilates classes in Boulder and regularly travels to Europe and around the U.S. to teach. Her long time practices of authentic movement, yoga and meditation are important influences on her dancing and teaching. She is also a graduate of the Hakomi Method of Experiential Psychotherapy and Bodymind Somanautics, and advanced training in somatic attachment, group process and anatomy re-patterning. As a registered psychotherapist she works with clients in somatic psychotherapy and movement education. She continues to delight in exploring and discovering new depths in contact improvisation and related disciplines and is particularly interested in the intersection of physics and expression and the mind/body relationship. www.tumblebones.com

Vilnius, Lithuania

It’s an international cozy event with 40-60 participants with the main idea – to create the space for gathering and connecting contact dancers and teachers from neighborhood around Lithuania and Baltics.

We will have a nice long week-end full of improvisations, contact dances, performances, jams, live music, spontaneity and happiness.

This year we will continue the theme of exploration and collaboration together. So be ready for rich classes, study labs and Jams! We are sure that our young CI communities are ready to discover and explore new ways in learning together. For this festival we invite some experienced CI and performance teachers and dancers who will share their experience in classes and help us to facilitate the study labs.

We are going to start from the present moment and follow our recent interests, inquires and questions in CI/performance. Come to meet, share and support, inspire and enjoy (contact, improvisation, performance, neighbours, new people, unknown, ideas).

Join us in creating this wonderful experience together!
Welcome to our beautiful capital Vilnius!

Fee for participation: with an early submission of registration form (see below) and a deposit of 10 EUR paid:
by 11th of November – 40 EUR
by 25th of November – 50 EUR

Travel tips: You can get a cheap flight (Air Baltic, Ryanair, Wizzair…) to Vilnius or Kaunas (2,5 h by bus from Vilnius) or many cheap bus tickets (SimpleExpress, Luxexpress, Ecolines) directly to Vilnius, if you buy in advance.
