Bodysurf Scotland is proud to present Brand New 12/13, the 10th of its now legendary new year dance events. This year’s event focuses on the dance form Contact Improvisation and is hosted by CI dancers and teachers Karl Jay-Lewin, Robert Anderson and Jovair Longo. It takes the form of a Jam – an unstructured time for dancing together – and is open to both beginners and experienced dancers. There will be led warm ups and optional movement classes to join outside of the event – not to mention a Hogmany party, hot tub, new year’s day ‘polar bear swim’, walking on the beach and time for relaxing.
The venue for the Jam is the magnificent Universal Hall Arts Centre in the Findhorn EcoVillage Community, NE Scotland. The Hall houses two dance spaces, a café and hot tub.
Accommodation: Self catering B&B chalets from £27 per night. Low cost shared rooms in homes of local dancers may be available, as well as local B&Bs. Enquire for details.

8 Week Wednesday Night Improvisational Contact Dance Series:
Jan. 9th through Feb. 27th
Shotwell Studio 7:30-9:30pm 3252A 19th St. at Shotwell, SF Series $150, $20 drop in per Class
This Workshop & Series taught by Stuart Phillips will explore unblocking patterned responses, making way for more authentically relating scenarios through dance improvisation. Our approach is authentically shifting our psychological view to more unfamiliar states, ultimately opening our shared dance experience to more poignant unknown realms which are extremely satisfying & nurturing.
A methodical approach consists of simple psychic group guidance, clean physical, mental or emotional foci unblocking patterns into cleaner expression of focus. Solo time hones true alignment with self. Then we move into being real in relationship with other and self, as duet, trio, quartet, quintet, etc., allowing personal truth to become the only excitement. This method of approach to dance Improvisationally changes participants’ dance styles to more personally aligned states, transforming ourselves into deeper pathways from self into manifested Dance.
Stuart has been involved with teaching & performing in the contact improv community for over 25 yrs, & with the improv dance environs for over 31 yrs.

6th annual winter Contact Improvisation retreat
w/ Touchmonkey, Carolyn Stuart and Patrick Gracewood
@ Breitenbush Hot Springs, retreat center extraordinaire near Detroit, Oregon
This year the theme will be Contact Games.
We’ll investigate our options in Contact Improvisation by focusing on and defining the ‘games’ we play, inside ourselves and in relationship.
The use of games provides a balance of fun and seriousness, structure and freedom. Games bring focus to the vastness of improvisation by creating bite-size pieces for you to study and integrate.
As usual, the purpose is to expand our understanding of and ability for mutual well-being- the gift of Contact Improvisation!
Treat yourself to beginning the new year with this immersion to deepen your skills of self-care, connection and playfulness.
It is an excellent event for those that prefer a smaller size group. The event is limited to no more than 20.
All levels of experience are welcome. We start from where we are and let curiosity and investigation take us where we need to go.
Let the games begin ;~)
We gather three times each day-
In the Mornings we’ll study our inner games by focusing on our ability to witness what is.
Experience is always occurring. How aware of it are we?
We’ll practice noticing what we notice and become more aware of the choices we are making moment by moment.
In the Afternoons we’ll play with the relational games of Contact Improvisation.
We’ll name, claim and expand the possibilities for mutual well-being through improvising in contact.
In the Evenings we’ll explore group games.
We’ll use the evenings to enjoy group activities to apply what we’ve gleaned from studying our personal and relational dancing.
The whole event, on and off the dance floor, is an exercise in co-creation. Simple structures are meant to support the research and discovery of mutual well-being. What happens along the way is dependent upon the interests and expression of everyone present.
Contact Improvisation offers a sustainable paradigm of thriving for all. Join us in the development this way of being, a new way of living!
Touchmonkey is the name Carolyn Stuart and Patrick Gracewood give their on-going thread of investigation in C.I., now in it’s 25th year!
