A rare opportunity for dancers who have participated in previous intensive workshops with Nancy to dive deeper into the study and practice of the “states of grace” materials, including: contact improvisation, solo and group improvisation, composition, contemplation, changing states, the Underscore, listening, and performance.

In addition to furthering our work in all of these areas, we will pay special attention to the delicate translation from intimate, private authenticity to artmaking intended to be viewed to the public.

Stephan Dreher & Felix Ruckert: Iyengar Yoga and Japanese Bondage, January 10-13, 2011, Schwelle7, Berlin/Germany

[deutsch, siehe unten]

Stephan Dreher & Felix Ruckert:
Iyengar Yoga and Japanese Bondage – Beginners
Monday, January, 10th to thursday, January,13, 2011

Daily at 11-14 Yoga //// 15 18 Bondage /// 20 – 22 Practice

This four-day-workshop combines Yoga Practice with an introduction to Japanese Bondage. During the morning sessions Stefan Dreher will teach Iyenar Yoga, in the afternoons Felix Ruckert will introduce participants to the art of Japanese Bondage ( Shibari).

The Yoga classes provide strength and balance, flexibility and calm. They are a great preparation for the work with the ropes which requests an alert, sensitive and focussed mind and a relaxed body.

The Bondage classes will introduce the basics of Japanese Rope Bondage ( Shibari), starting with fundamental knots and aesthetics and proceeding to creative floor work and some simple suspensions. Based on a solid technique, inspired by japanese masters such as Osada Steve, Arisue Go and Hajime Kinoko Felix will also approach the sensual, creative and meditative aspects of Shibari.

Both workshops are designed for beginners, but open to all levels.

Stephan Dreher is a dancer, choreograher and Yoga Teacher. He made his Yoga Formation a the Iyengar Institute in Amsterdam and with BKS Iyengar in Poona, India. Since 1997 he is teaching Yoga for most of the big Belgian Dance Companies, including Rosas, Ultima Vez, Meg Stuart, Michèle Anne de Mey, Les Ballets C. del a B.. He is also teaching dance students at P.A.R.T.S, Brussels and SEAD, Salzburg and doing his own choreographic work.

Felix Ruckert is a dancer, choreographer, and conceptual artist. His experimental dance pieces and installations, his participatory work, but also his choreographies for ballet companies earned him an international reputation as an innovative contemporary choreographer.
For 30 years he has been interested in all sort of body techniques. He studied ballet, modern and contemporary dance, Improvisation, Feldenkrais, Yoga, Chi Kung Tantra, Kyudo and much more. He worked as a dancer with several renowned European companies, before concentrating on choreography and conceptual work.
For ten years he has also been involved in a practical and theoretical investigation of BDSM and explores connections between BDSM techniques and artistic practices, developing an art and philosophy of sensual communication. He plays with ropes since 1999, and studied Japanese Bondage with Midori, Osade Steve and Arisue Go amongst others.

Jan.’07) und “island” solo for two (Biennale Charleroi/Danses 27., 28. und 29. April 2007).

Book NOW for your 5 days and nights to journey in the land of Contact Improvisation with a small group and soak in the magic healing waters of the old growth Breitenbush winter wonderland! WOW doubled!!

As we let the weight settle in the dance so we use this luxury of time to settle into our curiosity, inquiry and discovery, to let it take us where we need to go……

Each day we begin with AuthentiContact sessions for self-study within a group context. We’ve been combining Contact Improvisation and Authentic Movement for a very long time because every session is deeply satisfying. We’re excited to share this practice with you.

In the afternoons we’ll follow the lively thread that develops when we explore Contact Improvisation. We come to research our understanding of contact improvising via dance and dialog. Each designs and manages their own experience with the group as a resource.

In the evenings we’ll jam and experiment with performance, from simple sharing to performance ‘scores’ to presenting pieces- again according to who shows up and where the interests lie.

All levels of experience welcome. We begin where we are, again and again. This immersion is appropriate for those interested in being responsible for and to their experience in a co-creative environment. This is an opportunity to deepen your relationship to self and connection to others.
